Germantown Union Cemetery
Germantown Union Cemetery
Welcome to Germantown Union Cemetery, a place rich in history and community heritage. Serving the Germantown Community since 1849, our cemetery is a shared venture between Germantown and German Township. Walking through our grounds, you’ll see familiar names and legacies that tell the story of our community.
We strive to create a place of beauty, legacy, and celebration, where you can find your forever plot.
Serving the Germantown Community since 1849
Established in 1849 by Henry S. Gunkle, the Germantown Cemetery Association initially acquired 10 acres of land for $1000, located approximately half a mile west of Germantown’s center, to serve as a burial ground. Over the years, the cemetery has expanded to encompass about 20 acres for burials, with an additional 20 acres available for future development. In 1972, operational control transitioned to a union formed by the Germantown City Council and the Trustees of German Township, which led to the creation of the Germantown Union Cemetery in 1979. We are privileged to be the final resting place for over 15,000 individuals, including more than 1,000 veterans.
