Q: Can cremated remains be buried on top of a traditional burial?
Yes, as long as you own the grave or have the owner’s permission.

Q: How many cremated remains can be buried on a single grave space?
Normally between four and six.

Q: Can I sell my graves back to the cemetery?
Yes, the cemetery will buy the grave back from you for the same price that it was originally purchased from the cemetery

Q: Do you supply the tent and chairs for a service?

No. Tents, chairs, and other necessary items should be arranged for through your selected funeral home.

  • Ancestry.com – The most comprehensive database. Offers DNA Testing.

  • Antenati Genealogical Archives – Search birth, death, and marriage records from Italy.

  • Archion – German church records. Mostly Lutheran, but some Catholic also.

  • Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati Records of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati archives going back to 1821.

  • The Catholic News Archive – The Catholic Telegraph issues dating back to 1831.

  • Cincinnati Public Library – Any Ohio resident can be a cardholder. Provides virtual access to newspaper archives (The Cincinnati Enquirer, Cincinnati Post). Numerous digital collections containing photos, audio & video on a wide variety of topics. Cardholders can access Fold3, HeritageQuest, Newsbank, and ProQuest.

  • Cleveland Public Library – Any Ohio resident can be a cardholder. Provides virtual access to newspaper archives (Call and Post, Plain Dealer, some of the Akron Beacon Journal, and historical issues of The New York Time). Cardholders can also access Fold3 and HeritageQuest. Numerous more resources at physical branch.

  • Columbus Metro Library – Any Ohio resident can be a cardholder. Provides virtual access to Columbus Dispatch archives. Cardholders can also access Fold3, HeritageQuest and NewsBank. Several free research guides on website. The library will also scan your old photographs.

  • Cyndi’s List – Huge compendium of categorized genealogical resources.

  • Dayton History Books – Free web-based texts about Dayton history.

  • Dayton Metro Library – Any Ohio resident can be a cardholder. Provides virtual access to limited Dayton Daily News archives, plus current issues, and newer issues of the Columbus Dispatch. Cardholders can also access numerous databases through Ohio Web Library, plus Fold3, HeritageHub, and HeritageQuest. Has a large collection of photos & illustrations from Dayton’s history.

  • Family Search – Similar to Ancestory.com, but free. One world tree instead of individual trees.

  • Find A Grave – Find burial locations & see headstone photos. Volunteer-run.

  • Find My PastBritish & Irish family history site. Includes some parish records from Cincinnati archdiocese.

  • Fold 3Contains older military records. Owned by & integrates with Ancestory.com

  • Genealogy Bank – Archives from 15,000+ US newspapers. Has many that Newspapers.com doesn’t.

  • Germantown Historical Society – Local physical source for old photos, books, burial records and documents.

  • Germantown Public Library – Physical local history room. Cardholders can access Ancestry.com (library edition), Fold3 and HeritageQuest.

  • Irish Genealogy – Church and civil records from Ireland.

  • Legacy.com – Search obituaries from about 2000 until now

  • Library of Congress – Free database of select American newspapers.

  • Matricula Online – Church registers from Austria, Germany, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia.

  • Military Indexes – Links to various sites & databases containing military records.

  • My Heritage – Similar to Ancestry, but has more international records. Offers DNA testing.

  • National Park Service – Contains soldier databases for various wars. Can search by rank, etc. (No longer maintained or updated)

  • Newspapers.com – Archives from 28,900+ newspapers (mostly US). Owned by & integrates w/ Ancestry.com

  • Ohio Genealogical Society – Various resources for Ohio genealogy, including local society chapters.

  • Ohio History Connection – Ohio History Connection Archives & educational materials. Offers guides.

  • Ohio Memory – Newspapers, photos, video, audio, books from Ohio history.

  • Old Maps Online – Thousands of maps from around the world. Overlays current maps.

  • State Library of Ohio – Contains research guides, books, documents, and more.

  • Toledo Lucas County Public Library – Any Ohio resident can be a cardholder. Provides virtual access to Toledo Blade archives. Cardholders can also access Fold3, HeritageHub, and HeritageQuest from home.

  • Wright State University Genealogy – Wright State served as the official repository and archives for local government records.

Germantown Union Cemetery board meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of every month in the cemetery office.
